This campground in Minnesota is the nicest yet. Very friendly people.
Oatmeal and tea for breakfast, unfortunately it was the hottest morning yet. Laurel went for a dip in the pool while Dan recharged batteries and blogged.
We headed for Minneapolis. First stop was the Walker Art Center and sculpture park. There were some neat sculptures including the famous Spoonbridge and Cherry.
There are also these really weird lizard chipmunks. Lipmunk? Chizard?
We drove around Nicolett Mall in downtown and then went to the Mississippi river. We saw a steamboat go through a lock to bypass the falls. Even this far north the river is very wide (and dirty). The Stone Arch bridge was long, especially with this heat.
Next stop was the Mall of America. We rode two roller coasters and had a good lunch at the Twin Cities Grill. Mac and cheese with tomatoes, bacon, breadcrumbs, and more cheese -- seems to be a Midwest thing.
After some shopping we hit the road to see the Jolly Green Giant...
... and a new state! It was just a brief stop at Iowa's largest and possibly dirtiest and buggiest lake, Spirit Lake.
We set up camp 15 miles outside of Sioux Falls, SD, in Blue Mounds state park in Luverne, MN. There are bison in the park! We did some night rollerblading (after sunset) to see if we could spot a bison. We took the bike trail until it met up with the lower cliff trail. Supposedly this is a very popular climbing area -- 1.5 miles of 50' Sioux quartzite.
Tomorrow we're off to South Dakota.
